Our Mana Potential Journey
Through the Mana Potential approach, we aim to uplift the mana of tamariki and each other, focus of the strengths each other have, incorporating our KORAU values building positive relationships. We plan to hold an information evening about this and other approaches we are using for the curriculum later this year.
Room 13
Below are the qualities tamariki in Room 13 have identified as being important for their go to people and the Mana Framework all classes are using when talking about feelings and emotions.

ROOM 4 have been discussing what UNITE and INCLUDING look like – going to and from school, and in and out of the classroom. The children made posters illustrating the actions that show UNITE and INCLUDING and what it means to them. Here are some of them.
MANA POTENTIAL STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This year our staff have been taking part in professional development called Mana Potential.
Mana Potential is a framework that is strength-based that helps to build and strengthen positive relationships and culture within our school community. The framework creates a shared language that supports learning and enhances well-being by growing, strengthening and sustaining great relationships. It focuses on what can be done, not what can’t.
This approach fits within how we already work with tamariki and each other and incorporates our KORAU values and other work we have done around building positive relationships and responding to behaviours.
To build positive relationships and understanding, we all need to share a bit about ourselves and about where we come from.
Part of the process is for everyone within Kōraunui School to complete a Tuku Iho diagram. This shows our connections to whānau/family, those who have come before us, groups we have a belonging to and our school.
A copy of my diagram was sent out with the newsletter last term so you can see what this looks like for me (this is a work in progress still), everyone will have their own take on this.
In the coming weeks your child/children may come home and ask about your parents, grandparents and connections your whānau/family has with different groups. This will be because they are working on this in their class.
We will initially be working with tamariki about their connections to Kōraunui School. This is something they can all contribute to.
Any information you can provide your child/children to help with this would be great but if you don’t have much information, this is okay and please don’t worry about it. It is all about having a conversation.
